It was the year of the Cabbage Patch dolls. Me and my sisters wanted them. Badly! And they were expensive. My mom being the super mom that she is got together with the next door neighbors mom and they made homemade Cabbage Patch dolls for each of us.
I was a little bitter about mine being the only one with short hair, but I got over it. If we had gotten real Cabbage Patch dolls, this memory would have been long gone, but now I will never forget.
It almost inspires me to make those capes I've been thinking about making for the last couple of years. We'll see....
I'm the second from the left.
With our next door neighbors the Stomells.
I too remember getting a homemade Cabbage Patch. I didn't like mine. The next year my mom bought me a brand new one. I was such a brat. These pictures are so cute.
ReplyDeleteMy mom made me a Cabbage Patch doll, too. My mom saved it for me all these years, but it's not very cute anymore. It has stains on the face and an arm is missing. And it has no clothes. But I'm still glad I have it.
ReplyDeleteThat's so much fun! I never had a Cabbage Patch doll (homemade or store-bought), but Karen had a ton, and so did Joanna, so I guess I lived vicariously :) It was a little before my time, too, I guess...
ReplyDeleteI remember getting my Cabbage Patch doll and how much I loved him. In fact I recently let the girls play with my "Jimmy-Lee".
ReplyDeleteOne great memory with mine, I was sick and had to get a daily shot for about two years. Well one day I decided Jimmy-Lee needed one too and I got my mom's large knitting needle and gave him a shot in the chest. He still has a hole from that shot :)
Is that Greg? Too funny. I didn't know you lived by the Stommels. I never got a cabbage patch. Which was fine, I think I got something to build or books that year. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteI got a doll like that at my grandma's house one Christmas. I love mine! I still have it. Your mom made a lot of dolls! She is super mom!
ReplyDeleteMy mom made me one too (with short hair) I loved it and still have it but I was always a little sad that I didn't have a real one like all my friends did. They smell so good and have the signature on the butt that just can't be duplicated. I'm thinking about getting one for my daughter for Christmas even though she could care less. I just still want a real one!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome!! My mom and my friends mom made us some as well. I still have mine--it is up in a box in the garage but I still have it.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really good memory! Your mom is super mom!
